Dissapointing. Rating stars Sent: 02 September 2010
I sat down and watched all of these as the year when past and the only one that was acctually good was waters of mars.
Having decided to stop watching new doctor who after a rubbish xmas special and a AWFUL planet of the dead, my sister made me watch waters of mars.
I enjoyed it so much and decided to give doctor who another try until seeing the coming soon trailer for the end of time.
I was so shocked. They were bringing back the crappy new master and giving him super powers.
I only wached the xmas special followed by the new year special because i heard doctor who was gonna be given a whole new start with a new doctor (YAY) a new head writer (YAY) and new titles and theme music (YAY) and new cast and crew (YAY and NAY) and i wanted to see The REGENERATION and how it was done.
So all in all the only decent story in the set is waters of mars.

Faultless acting but let down by the plots. Rating stars Sent: 27 August 2010
It is always a pleasure to watch David Tennant as the Doctor, but there is a part of me that wishes for the sake of the story that the Doctor had regenerated after the cliffhanger in episode 12 of series 4. The four stories in this DVD collection are good enough, but there seems to be something missing in the overall story thread of this mini-series, as if the tenth Doctor's story was being stretched out longer than it should have been. Possibly also, due to his solitary travels, I felt a little distanced from the events and even the Doctor due to the lack of a companion who serves as a viewpoint character. However, the Christmas special, "The Next Doctor" offers us the possibility of meeting a FUTURE Doctor (rather than the past as has been in previous multi-doctor stories.) Though the story actually takes a different turn, it is a very human and compassionate tale that is told. "The Planet of the Dead" is average, with a rather 2-dimensional sidekick, but contains the chilling hints of the Doctor's death: "He will knock four times." "The Waters on Mars" stands out, as a rather terrifying look at when the Doctor is powerless to help... and even more terrifying when you see the darker consequences of the Doctor being the last remaining Time Lord, and the one who decides what the laws of time are. The series finale reintroduces John Simm as an even more psychotic Master than before, and the emotion is cranked right up thanks to Donna's grandfather Wilfred (Bernard Cribbins) in his promoted role as companion. The Doctor is troubled as never before by the prospect of his "death" - perhaps it's the knowing it must come and just having to wait, perhaps it's just his character in this incarnation, but we learn that regeneration is a frightening prospect. The plot involving the return of the Time Lords, seemingly all destroyed in the Time War, is full of potential but ultimately anticlimactic, despite the best efforts of all the cast. The real blow, though, is when the meaning of the prophecy is revealed as being something quite simple and mundane, and devastating.

Excellent series Rating stars Sent: 13 August 2010
The Doctor who specials Are some of the 5 best episodes of the entire Series These 5 discs come with the episodes themselves, Full episodes of doctor who confidential for each, The footage from the BBC doctor who proms 2008, audio commentary for some episodes,David tennent video diarys and more.
The discs themselves sit in a fold out box which is house in an outer box which sits in the cover sleeve. A booklet with information on the episodes is also provided.
A brilliant buy for any man woman or child (over 12 as the rating permits) Who watches doctor who

Great episodes, bad Quality. Rating stars Sent: 07 August 2010
First off, if you are a fan of doctor who, and you haven't seen these episodes, you most certainly do. They are all fantastic. This review, however, is going to focus on the quality of the set.

There are several things that I found annoying with the casing. First off is that big blue banner on the box, and the special features box on the back. As someone who likes to display their boxsets, It's very annoying (it's also a bit shorter). Another thing is that, unlike previous boxsets, where you have a folded Cardboard insert, covered with photos and artwork, this boxset just has a chunky blu-ray case. And unlike previous boxsets, where you'd have multiple episodes per disc, and then a Confidential disc, each episode has it's own disc (for some reason, The End of Time parts one & two are on seperate discs!)

As for the actual quality of the picture: If the lighting isn't exactly right with the scene, the picture will be grainy. Very rarely will you be thinking "wow, thats clear!". The problem shows itself most prominently in the intro of " Planet of the dead", where the burglars suit is covered with blue artifacts.

There are also substantially less special features. Aside from the video diaries, there really isn't much new. It is clear that this set was rushed out, compared to previous series. One thing that does work in it's favour, is that it has a HD TV Blu-ray settings optimizer thing built in, which runs a series of test cards, allowing you to adjust your TV's settings to their optimum.

So, I would reccomend picking up the DVD version. Afterall, most Blu-ray players upscale, and most of the boxes aesthetic issues are fixed with that.
