One of the best movies I've ever seen! Sent: 04 September 2010 A masterpiece! The story, the actors, the photography - everything is awesome in this subtle, great movie!
Awesome. riveting, disturbing Sent: 12 August 2010 The reality behind the Vicky Pollards.
I kept thinking this is like Lars Von Trier on crystal meth. Later I heard he was the mentor of the director.
Some reviews conjur up Mike Leigh. This movie is to Mike Leigh what snow blind is to a candle.
The director got STUNNING!!! performances out of the kids.
Also make sure you watch the short film Wasp that is an extra on the DVD. It resonates even more than the main movie.
ANDREA'S MAGIC MOVIE Sent: 07 August 2010 This one's a curiously uplifting gem, dug out of earth that's best described as scorched.
Andrea Arnold's masterful film about the pains and all-too-rare pleasures of adolescence on a run-down housing estate is sure to become a classic of its kind. It's a well-crafted and beautifully shot tale of low-life horrors, boasting what must be some of the best contemporary performances on screen. It may not be a cheerful film, but it has moments of something like humour that serve to highlight its compellingly dark beauty.
If only the UK Film Council had been more consistent in its choice of material to invest in, it might not now be defunct. By investing in FISH TANK, it backed one of its winners.
Andrea Arnold's career as a director will be an interesting one to watch. She has something powerful to say, and has certainly come a long way since her days as a presenter on Saturday morning kids' telly.
FISH TANK cannot be recommended highly enough.
Great British Film Sent: 22 July 2010 What a fantastic film from British director, Andrea Arnold. Be warned though, it is cringingly realistic of life in a disfunctional family living on a London housing estate, it will make you wince in places. Life, love, hates and complex human relationships are all here. I loved it and was thoroughly engrossed. What a superb actress, skilfully directed by Arnold.
